Post No. 104

March 2, 2013

For some reason, random words appear as links. I don’t know if this is the case with you too. The only word I have deliberately used as a link is the last “this” in the text and it links to a previous post. Forewarned is forearmed …

I’ m reading Jesus of Nazareth (Part two – Holy week) – written by Benedict XVI when he was still pope. Impressive. The book is impressive, not the fact that I’m reading it (though that too 😉 )

At one stage he refers to St.Paul’s letter to the Romans part of which (Rom 11:25-26) goes something like this:

I want you to know about this truth from God, dear brothers, so that you will not feel proud and start bragging. Yes it is true that some of the Jews have set themselves against the Gospel now, but this will last only until all of you Gentiles have come to Christ – those of you who will. And then all Israel will be saved.

He then quotes Hildegard Brem that until the time is ripe, “the Church must not concern herself with the conversion of the Jews, since she must wait for the time fixed for this by God, ‘until the full number of the Gentiles come in’ (Rom 11:25). On the contrary, the Jews themselves are a living homily to which the Church must draw attention, since they call to mind the Lord’s suffering (cf. Ep 363)

I don’t want to come across as facetious, but this gives the Holocaust another “facet”, doesn’t it? (Despite – or because – of this.)
